I have alot of experience with travelling and different type of hotels, including very luxury. Sheraton Sofia Balkan Hotel justified my expectations as classic, shic, elegant hotel. We have stayed a short time in the building and unfortunately we didn't have time to look around (we have been especially interested in fitness ) but we have only compliments. What was there not to like about this place? Staff were impeccable with a wealth of knowledge in several native tongues. The room was outstanding (Executive) great view in the old church, the bed was Devine and decor was classic yet modern. I love this place and will definitely be back.

Absolutely everything, we walked everywhere, .In the street there were friendly organized protests every evening but hotel staff advised us what time these would take place and we were in no way affected. Hotel is very nice, with nice interior in particular the corridors and rooms. Great location and very friendly staff. I stayed in executive room that was very good (smell being the only minor remark). The location of the hotel is wonderful. Right in the city center. It was clean and cheap. I arrived in Sofia very early in the morning and the hotel allowed me to check in at 9.00 am, althou. I really liked the food and the luxurious look of the hotel. The location is perfect. The main lobby of the hotel (in front of the reception) is small and restaurants are immediately to the left and right of the lobby diminishing an overall very nice impression about the interior. There was a smell in the room that should by all means be eliminated The air condition did not work, or at least I did not feel that it did. For this time of the year it was not a major issue. The breakfast is incredibly expensive. For 4 people it is almost the same with the price of one nighht stay. Some of the staff at the reception was not good and not hospitable. Some were perfect especially the bell boys, staff at the casino. The mini bar was so expensive. Never try to touch it. Nothing. The only downside is the parking which is bit overpriced. Wifi not included in room price. Staff was not 5 star. The bed in the suite did not have a beside table on both sides, nor lamp. General feeling is that this WAS a luxury hotel, but now it is tired. I suppose main focus is on business men enjoying the casino and night club. Bathrooms can be bigger. Thought their prices in lobby for coffee and snacks were a bit expensive. Everything was perfect. Free wifi in the lobby was veeery slow. More wellness (sauna, pool etc.) would have been nice. When you enter the lobby you have the feeling that you are entering in a second-hand furniture store - too many overcrowded "functional" corners. Mediocre reception staff which needs intensive training and supervision. The same applies to house-keeping. In short, the glamour of this hotel from the first years as Sheraton Sofia Balkn has disappeared... No Iron in the room, No kettle to make coffee, gym is poor. not very clean for a top hotel and air conditioner did not work effectively in the room. The nightclub was awful, why not just put a simple bar in?. Nothing to complain about... Fitness center - very old sport simulators Technogym. Shower with few water, Hair dryer did not work. Blocking €50 / per day of your stay on your bank account is annoying. They unblock that amount on your account 1 week after your stay. I did not liked the hygiene in my room, because it was on really low level if we have the price in mind. The bath was dirty and there was hair left from the previous guests There is €50 accommodation deposit, which is being returned to you when you live, but it was stated nowhere. The drinks from the mini bar are really really expensive, as well as the room service. Parking fee for a bike was the same like the car... Very old looking room decoration. Hotel is very very outdated and has not been rennovated for decades. The bed felt like wood it was that hard. And worst of all, there is a gentlemens club and a casino in the hotel. While I was ordering some tea at the reception my fiancee was being sollicited by one of the prostitutes to come to the club. I found this a very unpleasant experience and will do my best to tell people that travel to Sofia not to go to this hotel. It was one big dissapointment. Hot water flow at the shower was so poor that I could not get a decent shower. Haşr dryer was not working. There is a room service charge of 6 leva which of course goes to the hotel's pocket. The toilet on the lobby floor dirtier than the ones you may find in gas stations. furniture, cleaning, smell and the lack of free wi-fi. They substituted suite with balcony and a city view to a smart room with Xerox and a desk (and no windows). Told that this is one category. This was the worst room I ever saw. Food is bad and not fresh.
