We booked this hostel because it was the cheapest we could find and didn't really expect much. BUT this was our best stay so far, Louis is extremely friendly and helpful, we felt at home at his hostel and if we didn't have a flight to Belem, we would have stayed longer. Great value for money, a lot of transport options for any spot in Rio (there are many buses and an urban train station close) and great people. The rooms are basic, it's a hostel for travelers, not a hotel, but clean and cosy. W.

Louis, the owner, is a great guy, very knowledgable, speaks many languages and goes out of his way to make your stay in Rio the best possible. Depending on what is on, he might take you to a club or spend a sunday at the beach with the whole hostel. The location is a bit off the tourist hot spots, but everything else is close by (groceries, bars, restaurants, tra. The staff is very helpful and courteous, They always provide you advice for anything you need to visit or do in Rio. They also speak English, which is very rare in Brazil, so it is easy to communicate with them. The hostel was kept clean despite it being full, because of the carnival season. I liked the atmosphere in the hostel, the owner is very friendly and speaks many languages. The girls at the reception are nice and helpful. Great parties in the evenings! If you are looking for the warm company during your stay, that`s the place!. Louis was fantastic - he picked us up from the airport as arranged but then also took us out to a local bar. He also dropped us at the bus station when we left- legend! Breakfast was delicious and everything was clean. He met us at the Rio Airport in the very early morning as requested.The owner was without doubt the most helpful person that I have ever encountered in the hotel /hostal industry. - Located a bit away from all tourist attractions, but Rio has a great bus/metro system and many busses leave/arrive just in front of the door. And taking the bus gives you a nearly free (2.75 R$) tour of Rio - Its a lively neighborhood, till late at night. If you have a light sleep, bring earplugs. It is far away from the touristic places, always consider at least 40min to get anywhere by bus or metro. But you can find any bus stop close to the hostel to take you anywhere you want to go. Buses run until quite late and it is a safe neighborhood. You can walk at anytime there, and since it is not a touristic place prices in restaurants aren't expensive even during Carnival. A bit away from the main attractions but the bus system works well and is cheap, as are the cabs. Definitely budget accomodation. Quite far our from main attractions and as two women we didn´t feel safe in the area. The hostel although clean was very very basic and bit ´rough´around the edges.
