The warmth and thoughtfulness of the staff, always ready to help you. The room was on the front, attractive, comfortable, airy and immaculately clean and maintained. The location in the Rocks is brilliant - step across the road and you're on Circular Quay. Sydney never disappoints and The Russell helped to make our stay memorable especially for my sister who was visiting for the first time.
all reviews » It was just a 2 minute walk from the train stop that runs all the way from the airport in just 20 minutes. Very easy to access. Friendly staff. Very clean. We had a room with shared bathroom and it was very clean and big + for the Molton Brown schampoo, conditioner and soap in the bathrooms :) The room very beautiful decorated. Old fashioned in a good way. Everything about this place is fantastic starting with the price that can't be beaten this close to Circular Quay and the Opera House in the heart of the Rocks. Super friendly and helpful staff. Quirky layout but beautifully appointed. Easy Walking distance to all the top tourist spots in Central Sydney. We'll be going back again and again and again. The Russell Wine Bar was brilliant, a huge selection of wines and beverages and a great menu. The service was 5 star. The King size bed was a bonus with a huge bathroom. We were able to store our luggage and relax in the sitting room as our flights home were delayed and it rained heavily all day so sightseeing wasn,t really much of an option!. The beautifully decorated rooms with antique furniture. Superb location - small walk to circular quay and the CBD. Easy and economical parking for such a great location. Bar/restaurant provided a really eclectic menu and what we had was excellent. Great atmosphere and highly recommendable to anyone who wants their stay in Sydney to be perfect. Less than 1 min walk from central quay ferry, train and bus station. My stay at The Russell Hotel was magnificant, the staff were amazing it was like a home from home. The location could not of been better having the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the Wharf for connections right on my door step. They made my stay very relaxing and it was made to feel like a home from home. My friend & I attended a concert at the Opera House & it was a very nice stroll back to our room afterwards. I liked the fact we had a front room which faced George St. I also liked the late checkout time but unfortunately this time we did not get to take advantage of it. Probably the best location I can find within this budget. Walking distance to the Opera House, the Bridge and the Rock. It is much more like a B&B than a boutique, but still a well-maintained place. Most friendly hotel staff I have ever met, especially Fiona and Robyn. Location, right in the heart of the Rocks and Circular Quay, which made it great spot for getting onto trains, buses or ferries. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. It had a lovely feeling to the Hotel, not like a big Hotel chain. Breakfast included was good. This is our 4th time at the Russell, and it continues to provide us with the location and facilities we enjoy so much in The Rocks. The bed was a bit rickety - it is about time the hotel invested in some new beds. Although the beds are old style to match the ambience of the hotel, they are just a bit beyond their "use by date". Rooms are small with limited facilities and noisy at night (Saturday only, Friday night was quiet), so earplugs needed, but we expected that and the price is fair; and the location sets all of that off. The squeaky floorboards but I did get used to them!. The lack of airconditioning meant it was a bit hot in the room, but I liked that I could open the window for fresh air. The parking was close by but we had problems when trying to access the carpark on saturday morning as the access to the building where the elevators to the carpark was closed, we managed to find our way back by walking in the out driveway. We also had to get assistance with payment as we were going to be overcharged, then the machine didnt give us any change. Now we have a credit that we have to try to retrieve. breakfast could be better. sometime noisy at night no expresso coffee available at breakfast. The steps were a bit much for those not so young, but I must say the staff helped in any way they could with luggage etc. Room (25) was noisy at night even with earplugs in. No bar fridge for medications. No A/C and no refrigerator. Pretty pricey, but all central Sydney hotels seem to be similarly priced. No bar fridge was a surprise; TV signal was poor - this is unacceptable in a hotel of this type in the city and should be properly checked and fixed prior to being let. There were no flyscreens on the windows. It was summer there was no air conditioner only a noisy fan. There was no fridge for cold drinks and no drink machine in the building. The room was not air conditioned and the fan only helped a little....we were bitten by mosquitos all night long and when we complained to the lady in her air conditioned office and requested at least screens for future customers she did not seem interested. Know that some rooms have shared baths but these are priced accordingly. The stairs- too many, but quite understandable considering the age of the building. Creaky floorboards, stains on carpet, broken chair. Gap underneath adjoining door to next door's room (let noise through) Was expecting a hot breakfast included in the price. Bedside lamp needed to be right beside the bed for reading, not on the far side. Nothing. Would like to have a full breakfast. all good. The place was too quiet, uncomfortably, there was no radio or ipod docks in the room which was disappointing, even breakfast there was no music in the background and around the service desk, just add these and the place would be top class!!. Street noise in front room. There were many steps and although there was a lift we still had to manage small flights of stairs. This was only difficult for me due to recent Achilles' tendon rupture. However it was something I did not see mentioned in previous reviews. The air-conditioner sitting on the floor in our room, there wasn't enough space for making tea and coffee and perhaps a full length mirror would have been nice. Nothing!. air conditioning noisy. Breakfast in the Wine Bar could be better. Little bit noisy. No view, but I didn't request one.
